Make your move with Post:Ballet at
Post:Workshop is a week-long summer intensive designed for emerging and professional dancers interested in exploring a modern approach to their classically-based technique and expanding their artistic voices through meaningful creative collaboration with the Post:Ballet artistic team.
Monday, July 29th – Friday, August 2nd (10am-4pm daily)
10-11:30am. Contemporary ballet class with Robert Dekkers or Vanessa Thiessen
11:45-1:15pm. Movement generation with Dekkers/Thiessen
2-4pm. Choreography with Dekkers/Thiessen and Post:Ballet composer/collaborator Samuel Adams
Post:Workshop immerses dancers in a physically demanding, emotionally nurturing, and artistically enriching experience in the heart of San Francisco’s Mission District. Each day begins with a contemporary ballet class, lead by Post:Ballet’s Artistic Director Robert Dekkers or Resident Choreographer Vanessa Thiessen. Morning class is followed by repertoire and movement generation with Dekkers and Thiessen, giving dancers the chance to explore the company’s unique creative process firsthand.
The dancers will spend the last two hours of each day participating in Post’s collaborative process with Dekkers and Thiessen alongside Post:Ballet composer/collaborator Samuel Adams. Dancers will develop their creative voice through active participation in the development of new work alongside a composer and choreographers who also work together in a very collaborative manner.
Post:Workshop culminates in a “friends and family” performance at Dance Mission’s Black Box Theater on Friday, August 2nd at 2pm, where participants will perform the work developed during the intensive. This showing is followed by a reception where dancers, collaborators, friends, and family can mingle and celebrate the work developed over the Post:Workshop week.
Enrollment is by invitation only and is limited to 20 dancers, who will be placed into one of two groups (pre-professional or professional). Dancers must by 16 years of age by July 1st to participate in this program.
Dancers interested in attending Post:Workshop 2019 are asked to send a resume, head shot, dance shot, and either include a link to an online work sample (rehearsal or performance excerpts) or attend one of Robert’s open classes around the Bay Area (class list will be sent once materials are received). Please send applications to Post:Ballet Company Manager Natalia Perez, firstname.lastname@example.org. Applications are due no later than April 30, 2019.
