Post:Workshop immerses dancers in a physically demanding, emotionally nurturing, and artistically enriching experience in the heart of San Francisco’s Mission District. Each day begins with a contemporary ballet class, lead by Post:Ballet’s artistic director Robert Dekkers or Post’s movement director Vanessa Thiessen. Morning class is followed by Post repertoire with Vanessa and Robert, giving dancers the chance to dive into the company’s latest works in an intimate setting with the choreographers.

In addition to technique and repertoire classes, the workshop provides a daily opportunity for participants to develop the skills essential to collaborative dance-making in the 21st century. The first week of the intensive investigates movement generation, exploring various motivations for movement and ways to develop the dancer’s range and voice in improvisation and movement creation. The second week of Post:Workshop utilizes the movement developed during the first week to explore the construction of choreography, inviting participants to actively participate in the creation of new work.

Post:Workshop culminates in a “friends and family” performance at Dance Mission’s Black Box Theater on Friday, August 11th at 1pm, where participants will perform Post:Ballet repertoire as well as new work created during the intensive. Following the workshop, all dancers will receive a link to download a professional video of the performance (captured by Loren R. Robertson Productions) at no extra cost, which they’ll be allowed to use for personal archives and future audition materials as desired.

Enrollment is by invitation only and is limited to 24 dancers. Dancers interested in attending Post:Workshop 2017 are asked to send a resume, head shot, dance shot, and either include a link to an online work sample (class or rehearsal excerpts) or attend one of Robert’s open classes around the Bay Area (class list will be sent once materials are received). Please send applications to Post:Ballet Company Manager Riley Nicholson, rnicholson@postballet.org. Applications are due no later than May 1, 2017.
