About

Through and Through is a multimedia work for five dancers. The piece is 18 minutes in length and features an original score composed and played live by Vân-Ánh Võ.

The piece was commissioned by the Metro Film and Arts Foundation, and premiered on June 11, 2022 at the Cowell Theater as part of Breaking Down Walls, an art show fundraiser for humanitarian aid in Ukraine.

Mia J. Chong is a choreographer and movement artist from San Francisco, the Indigenous lands of the Ramaytush Ohlone and Muwekma people. Mia currently dances with San Francisco-based contemporary dance company ODC/Dance and collaborates with Berkeley-based contemporary ballet collective Post:ballet. She has received a Princess Grace Award, Chris Hellman Dance Honor, Aninstantia Foundation Grant, LINES Ballet Homer Avila Award, Jacob’s Pillow Ann & Weston Hicks Choreography Fellowship, and Isadora Duncan Dance Awards and nominations for her work as a performer and creator. Mia choreographs works throughout the Bay Area with the intention of engaging viewers from all walks of life, honoring collaboration, and celebrating connectivity. Learn more at miajchong.com.
